HELIO is based on a simple idea: to design a solar light and power source we could use for adventures and emergencies, and that others in need would use daily. Great for camping and other off-grid activities, HELIO lights up your camp site, your garage...anywhere where there's no power.
Makers4Good set out to design an off-grid personal power station that performs for the most demanding uses—plus something stellar for people in parts of the world without reliable access to power. In both cases, a rich set of features with high-capacity personal power storage helps people be productive and thrive. With HELIO, you are not foiled by the dark and you can stay digitally connected.
Personal lighting features start with a utility flashlight, whose 15° light beam is driven through a multi-staged lens assembly. This design gives ample light in the focus area and provides mild off-center illumination enabling peripheral vision. You'll see what you intend to see, and you'll know what's hanging around in the dark.
HELIO's white lantern mode makes doing close tasks at night comfortable. The 28 4000° Kelvin white LEDs are diffused through multi-staged diffusors. The light is pleasing to the eye and minimizes shadows.
Because sometimes night work requires you to see things close while preserving your night vision, we provided you with a red lantern function. The red lantern has 26 LEDs, diffused and colored red to maximize vision and minimize shadows. Whether on your boat, with your telescope, or just checking maps while hiking after dark, HELIO solar light lets you see what you need to see up close—and also see deep into the night.
All three HELIO lighting modes include today's most efficient LEDs and LED driver circuits to ensure the highest power light with the least battery consumption. Each of the three HELIO lighting modes have three power settings. The highest power settings provide lighting flexibility for demanding tasks. The middle settings provide ample light for normal tasks. Thanks to the ample storage in the HELIO batteries, the low Infinity Power setting for each lighting mode allows the lights to stay on continuously for a month using a full battery, or forever with some solar input to the solar cell.
When you need a flashing light, HELIO's flashlight and white lantern combine to provide a bright, mixed warning light—mixing both the focused beam and the diffuse light for maximum visibility in a variety of circumstances.
The HELIO form factor makes sure all the personal lights and power features are accessible. When used as a flashlight, the colored rubber coatings help you keep a firm grip, and the rectangular shape settles easily in your hand. For extra security, HELIO includes a high strength aramid lanyard. The rectangular shape nestles comfortably on your car's dash, so you always have a fully charged light immediately available when you need it.
HELIO's stand is a marvel of engineering. When used on a tabletop, it holds the lantern to illuminate your reading or work directly—or, if you prefer, to provide indirect room lighting. It allows for hands-free flashlight use, and can also be used to maximize sun exposure for the solar panel. If that were not enough, the hole in the stand lets you mount your HELIO on top of a soda bottle.
To maximize the ways you can use your HELIO a clamping disk and mounting screw are included. This lets you mount your HELIO to walls, posts and doors. Need a light on a shed or path and there's no power? HELIO screw-on mounting clamp comes to your rescue.
The HELIO solar charging system provides a full 1 watt of charging capacity. We use today's best solar charge controllers, so you can capture the maximum amount of energy throughout the day. These charge controllers protect your HELIO's batteries from overcharge conditions They also manage HELIO charging from the USB port, and provide a level of thermal management not found in most personal portable powerbanks.
When it's time to charge your phone, the 10.5 Watt USB charging port will power up your iPhone, Android phone, tablet or other device quickly and efficiently. In no time you'll be reconnected to the digital world. I love this light. Very Sturdy, and so versatile. I'm glad I bought 2, have one in my car and one at the house. Great for Power Outages, although have used mine for "Extra Light" ... I think my old flashlight feels abandoned.
I purchased this product through the Kickstarter program. Once it arrived and my husband (a general contractor) figured out everything it is capable of doing he brought it to his job site and said it is the most invaluable tool he has right now. Compact but bright enough to use while crawling under a house, and can be used it to charge his phone too! My only issue is that I didn't purchase more!

HELIO Solar Light & Powerbank is such a wonderful product and it helps support a great cause! I backed this project on Kickstarter and ended up giving it to my dad for Christmas. He has diminished vision capacity and often needs to have a flashlight handy. He loves the multi-brightness functions, and the durable hinge which allows him to spotlight projects that he works on, but the best part is NO MORE DEAD BATTERIES. This light is always ready to go. Now everyone in my family wants one!

HELIO has multiple light choices for a variety of off-the-grid uses. The flashlight is powerful. The lantern is works well as a task light, covering uses from cooking to reading to assembly. HELIO's red lantern is for anybody who wants to work at night and preserve night vision: astronomers take note. The flashing light feature can, of course, ensure safety. All these lighting modes are backed by HELIO's large battery, so they last for a long time—up to a month on a single charge.
HELIO has a large battery so that normal users will have a power buffer between themselves and darkness. With HELIO and its large battery capacity, you are never in the dark.
HELIO weighs 370 grams, and its dimensions are 216mm x 61mm x 32mm.
It is possible to charge HELIO with a USB cable in addition to the fact that you can charge with the solar panel. When charging over USB, a complete charge can be achieved in about 6 hours.
The solar panel will take 5-7 days to fully charge the unit under ideal conditions. If conditions are less than ideal--if there are clouds, or shorter days due to Winter, or if the unit is not in direct sunlight for any reason--a full charge may take quite a bit longer. These limitations are inherent to solar panels, even very efficient ones like the one on HELIO.
HELIO has 3,170 mAh of USB-out charging capacity. This is enough to charge an iPhone 8 about 1.75 times, a Samsung Galaxy S8 once, a GoPro Hero 4 2.5 times, a 6th generation iPod Touch 3 times, and an iPad Mini 4 to about 60% of its fully charged capacity.
HELIO is designed to be water resistant, and is rated at IP65 for water resistance. This rating is an industry standard for surviving water intrusion testing under 15 minutes of rain, at 12 liters per minute projected against the device.
Makers4Good will warranty against manufacturing defects for one year.

For every HELIO purchased, 100% of profits go to provide our lighting products to nonprofit organizations. The specific type of solar lights given to nonprofit partners will vary depending on their individual needs. In some cases, we will give our HELIO solar lights to our nonprofit partners for use in their programs. In other cases, the most effective support will be to provide one of the lower-cost solar lanterns that we sell, and therefore to help a larger number of people. Makers4Good will work with our nonprofit partners to identify and to provide the most useful form of support for each partner's specific needs.
It is the same general idea; you get a great light, and when more people buy our products Makers4Good can provide more products to those in need.
Our investors and supporters want to use 100% of our profits to support charities with our solar products. Our approach also allows us to match the products we give to what a nonprofit needs most. We work with each nonprofit partner to give them the most useful product we can provide.
Our goal was to give as much support as possible, and 100% seems to meet that goal.
